Zone 1A Project 2011-12 - Brainwave
Brainwaves is a national charity that helps families of brain damaged children, including those from Dorset.
As soon as possible after diagnosis families are encouraged to make a telephone request to Brainwaves Centre and provide medical information about the child. Families are then invited to benefit from the Centre's full facilities during a two-day Initial Assessment Visit. During this visit, their child is assessed by a team of therapists, who design a daily Exercise Programme which is specifically suited to the child. This Programme is fully explained and demonstrated to parents and carers to ensure they learn how to carry out the exercises properly, in what order and for how long to ensure they have full understanding of how to help the child develop.
They then go home and are visited by therapists in their home so the family can have the most full and satisfying lives possible, with equipment provide by Brainwaves. Re-assessment takes place after four to six months and only when it is felt that they have mastered treatments are the visits from the therapists
